We sat down with our Trainee Estimator/Surveyor, Albie, who gave us some insight into what it’s like working at Hi-Tech.
Albie is a Trainee Estimator/Surveyor, which means he is responsible for assessing and determining costs associated with some of our projects. He is mostly office based, but visits sites from time to time to be able to properly assess them and build customer relationships. Here is what he had to say about his work when we asked him some questions.
I enjoy the versatility of the role. Some days I’m in the office quoting jobs, and others I’m on the road doing site visits surveying jobs. I’m never bored and there’s always something to do.
I like the welcoming environment and the people I work with. Everyone in the company is here to help me progress further in my career and cares about my progression as a trainee estimator. Beyond that, it’s a great team to be a part of because everyone is very friendly!
I’ve developed my communication skills hugely. I have not been in a professional environment before with as much social interaction. In this role, I speak regularly with contractors which has improved my social skills.

Not too intense! I work for 4 hours in the office, have an hour break, then another 4 hours work again. I spend my days organising quotes for various works for our clients, and often get to visit the sites I’m quoting for in order to survey and assess their needs for myself. Often, I have to liaise with clients to make sure we’re keeping up with their expectations.
I would describe my experience as challenging and a lot of good hard work! While I’m still a trainee estimator, there’s no lack of work to get on with, which suits me.
