Flood Recovery and Refurbishment at The Royal Oak

Flooding devastated this property, forcing it out of business for months. After getting back on its feet, disaster struck again, and we were ready to help once more.

In the heart of the New Forest is a community hub of a pub called The Royal Oak. With a huge Oak tree seemingly sticking out of the front of the building and an eye-catching green exterior, it’s hard to miss. A favourite spot for dog walkers, it also boasts a large garden perfect for enjoying sunny days. Sadly, the ‘lovely weather’ was exactly what caused the pub’s second closure within a year. Having already completed a full refit after the first flood, Storm Henk hit, and the pub was once again submerged. Watch us repair the flood damage here:

Flood Damage Repair Begins

When we arrived, the pub was still decorated for Christmas, frozen in time after the latest flood. We immediately got to work, ripping up damaged floorboards, removing ruined panelling, and addressing the structural damage. One of the key tasks was carefully removing the floor-to-ceiling windows, which were taken to our workshop for full refurbishment. Once restored, the windows were reinstalled, and we covered the bottom portions with new custom panelling, providing both durability and a traditional aesthetic to match the pub’s charm.

Next, we installed new wood flooring throughout the entire pub, revitalising the space and making it fit for its many loyal patrons. The entire interior was then repainted and redecorated, giving a fresh new look to the pub, including a full refresh of the commercial kitchen. We also attended to various smaller but crucial tasks, replacing doors, handles, and even a fence in the garden that had also been damaged.

Opening Up Once More

The owners saw opportunity to conduct a complete refresh while we were in there the second time around. They asked us to rebuild the bar, completely bespoke, as well as a few other improvements, like replacing rotting wood around the windows and a full flooring replacement.

By May, The Royal Oak was once again ready to welcome its visitors, this time with a revitalised and flood-resistant space. The transformation not only restored the pub to its former glory but improved on many aspects, making it a welcoming spot for the community and a reliable business for the future.

At Hi-Tech Property Services, we understand that disasters happen, but with the right approach and expertise, recovery can bring new possibilities for improvement. We’re proud to have helped The Royal Oak weather the storm and ensure it remains a central part of its community.
